EMAIL SYSTEM UPDATE
Email Migration extended to May
15th.
Your email address
will remain the same.
SYSTEM MESSAGE:
Pioneer Broadband will be migrating to new email
servers
starting March 21st, 2008.
AFFECTED AREAS:
All customers will be affected. This change will
affect all email in all domains owned, hosted, or
managed by Pioneer.
NOTE:
THE STEPS OUTLINED BELOW NEED TO OCCUR TO
ENSURE YOUR ABILITY TO LOGIN TO THE SYSTEM FOLLOWING
THE MIGRATION AND SHOULD BE DONE AS SOON AS
POSSIBLE.
THEY MAY BE
DONE NOW.
WE HAVE
DESIGNED THE STEPS TO WORK WITH OUR CURRENT EMAIL
SYSTEM.
Here are a few things that you must perform prior
to our migration.
1. You will need to ensure your email client
(Outlook Express, Outlook, Incredimal, Thunderbird,
MacMail, etc.) is configured to login to your
account with your entire email address as the
account name. Some of you already do this and that
is fine, you should be all set. For those of you
that do not, please make that change. Here is an
example:
a. If my email
address is joeuser@pioneerwireless.net, I need to
ensure that my email program has joeuser@pioneerwireless.net
as the username. Prior to this change it was
possible for joeuser@pioneerwireless.net to login
with the account name joeuser. So, simply add @domainname.com
or @domainname.net as the case may be and you should
be able to make it through the migration without
having to call for Technical Support.
2. If you currently store email on the server,
please download it to ensure our migration goes as
quickly as possible. We have no problem with you
storing your email on the server and that ability
will be enabled with the new system, but there are
some rather large mailboxes out there. One of our
first steps in the migration will be to enforce a
size limit on mailboxes to cut down on the time
spent moving files. If you have more mail than the
limit, your mailbox may be truncated to fit the size
limit criteria. It is suggested that you configure
your email client to “not” store messages on the
server. If you require assistance with this
particular step, please call in to Technical
Support.
3. You may take advantage of a software tool we have
created for Windows-based clients to make these
changes for you. If you are interested in this
option
NOTE: The new webmail system will be your
interface to your email account settings. This will
be the place where you can go and change your
settings, view messages marked as SPAM, view
quarantined messages, whitelist, blacklist, forward,
and set vacation messages. You may access WebMail
from anywhere on the Internet, by typing http://mail.domainname.com
or http://mail.domainname.net as necessary. Remember
to login using your full email address as the
username.
MAINTENANCE ACTIVITY DETAIL:
Pioneer Broadband will be migrating to new
email servers throughout the month of March starting
on March 21st, 2008. We are migrating to the new
system to replace aging server hardware and
implement new features for customers that want more
control over the mail that is destined for their
address. This new system will allow users to control
their own SPAM and Virus scanning settings. It also
allows customers to create their own mailboxes
depending on the package they have purchased. This
new system will also give our travelling users
ability to send mail through our server while they
are on the road as well as enhanced WebMail
capabilities. Sending mail through our servers while
outside the network has not been an option for some
of our domains due to security implications with one
of our email software vendors. Our new vendor
assures us this feature is safe and effective and we
look forward to offering this service to our
customers.
Our investment in this new email system is an effort
to ensure our customers get the best service we can
offer. In these days of incessant SPAMMERs and virus
laden files running amuck on the Internet, email
management is an increasingly difficult task. We are
in hopes that this new system will benefit not only
our customers, but our technicians and engineers
that keep the email flowing every day.
Our goal is to
migrate without interruption to the flow of email.
It is important to note that migrations on this
scale may not go as well as planned, but we are
going to do everything in our power to ensure
minimal impact to the customer experience.
